Enjoy the video. I haven't posted one in a while. This may look deliberate and graceful - it was unplanned and not what you plan on doing through a rapid. I'll continue to pretend it was intentional however.

New Years Eve Paddle
Pete, Kristen and I went on a white water paddle of the Woolen Mills run on the Rivanna River. It was a great day with me finding a baby alien toy hanging onto a branch in the river. I named her April the Alien and she made it through all the rapids unscathed.

very clever..would there be a reason to turn around like that on a rapid? and April the Alien stayed put.
ReplyDeleteYou can turn around in a rapid if you know you can surf at the bottom. Doing so lets you drop down into the rapid to surf instead of having to eddy hop and ferry back to surf. People more advanced than me know how to do that. I have done it a few times via guidance from Pete and the guides on the Lower Gauley River.
ReplyDeleteMy goal for the day was to have April the Alien stay put through all rapids. She was fully submerged often but made it through!
