Early the next morning, we headed high up into the cloud forests to begin our mountain biking excursion.
We ran into a little traffic
Yes that's a machete - turns out it's a great motivator for cows |
I was on a mission to get the most muddy - I won. |
Daniel and Jose rehydrating us with the best pineapple and watermelon I've ever tasted
We went back to the hotel to clean up before heading to the market for lunch and more cultural sightseeing.
Kasey and I had to try the cuy (guinea pig) |
Yes, those are the teeth - they don't gut it either - it did not have much meat and tasted like pork
Candy stores everywhere |
Fresh pulled taffy - including the dirt and car exhaust from the street |
We stopped at a few waterfalls on our way to Tena where we would whitewater raft the next day.
Fastest cable car ride ever to the other side |
Headed to the Pailon del Diablo Waterfall
We arrived at our lodging,
Iyarina Lodge, in the Amazon Basin. We arrived well after dark so pictures didn't turn out well. The ants made their zig zag way over the one bridge and many members of the group couldn't handle the bugs. I guess I'm the only one that equates bugs with the Amazon.
We got the Misahualli (Monkey Town) room |
The ant bridge |
Doesn't get much better than this |
Breakfast was delicious - Humitas (steamed sweet corn in banana leaf) and fried plantains |
We had a beautiful morning for our drive to the Jatunyacu river for Class IV whitewater rafting!
