World Cancer Day

Good morning everyone! Today is World Cancer Day!

I never really noticed this day in the past, but probably should have, since millions of people every year have been personally impacted in some form by the disease.

I get today's information from Nice News, a great way to start your day!

Quest to Cure Cancer in Golden Retrievers Advances Human Research, Too

Golden retrievers, known for being one of the most popular dog breeds, are, unfortunately, particularly susceptible to cancer. On a mission to understand why they’re at risk (and how to help them live longer), scientists have been studying their genes.

Here's my Golden, Jameson, doing his best to support:

Another great one of his valiant attempt at providing an income by being an Iditarod dog, courtesy of our dog sitter:

My sister-in-law recently brought the Cancer Moonshot℠ Initiative to my attention as well. I figured World Cancer Day is a good day to highlight this information.

The Cancer Moonshot was launched in 2016 to accelerate scientific discovery in cancer research, foster greater collaboration, and improve the sharing of cancer data. By focusing on areas of cancer research that are most likely to benefit the American people as a result of new investment, the Cancer Moonshot has brought together a large community of patients, advocates, researchers, and clinicians who are dedicated to advancing research to end cancer as we know it.

Last cancer pearl of the day:

HER2-positive breast cancer is not inherited. Instead, it’s considered a somatic genetic mutation. This type of mutation occurs after conception. Having a close relative with HER2-positive breast cancer does not increase your risk for breast cancer or HER2-positive breast cancer. This is great news for my sister and my parents!

I'll leave you with this infographic to chew on:
