Sockeye Fire

We've already had many wildfires this year due to lack of snow and dry, hot weather which is unusual for Alaska. Although wildfires are natural, it is devastating when homes are destroyed. The Sockeye Fire in the Willow, AK area put many mushers and their dogs out of homes. Melissa and I were traveling back from Denali and the (only) road was closed due to the fire. Then they opened it with a pilot car. We were the last car through before they re-closed it as the winds shifted as we were next to the fire and it jumped. This is as close to a fire as I'll ever want to be.
